London Fire Brigade has successfully prosecuted a Marylebone pub landlord which led to a substantial £35,000 fine for a number of concerns uncovered by a fire safety inspection.
The inspection came in retrospect of a complaint made by a prospective tenant of The Bell House pub on Bell Street, and disclosed cause for concern in several areas, including lack of an up to date fire risk assessment for the property, failure to properly maintain fire extinguishers, inadequate fire detection devices, and insufficient escape routes from fire and smoke. All of which could have severely put tenants at risk.
The landlord was issued with an enforcement notice in 2012, but failure to act upon work that needed to be done, even through refurbishment in 2013 meant that action needed to be taken.
